MultiChoice Ethiopia held a vibrant celebration to mark the successful completion of the acclaimed telenovela "Afaf" and to introduce exciting new content on Abol TV, reinforcing its commitment to Ethiopian culture and entertainment. The event took place at the Ethiopian Archives and Library Service Hall, attracting key industry leaders, filmmakers, and government officials and showcasing MultiChoice Ethiopia's role in advancing Ethiopia’s film and television industry.

Since its inception in mid - 2021, Abol TV has contributed significantly to the Ethiopian film landscape, transforming how audiences engage with local content. State Minister of Culture and Sport, Her Excellency Nafisa Almahdi, during her opening remark praised DSTV's substantial support in developing Ethiopia's cinematic arts, emphasizing its financial investment and broad distribution network for local creators. “MultiChoice has played a pivotal role in uplifting Ethiopia’s film industry," said Nafisa, citing "Afaf" as a remarkable production that deeply resonates with Ethiopian audiences. She encouraged MultiChoice to continue delivering diverse film and entertainment content alongside its celebrated sports programming.

Metasebya Belayneh, Head of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs at MultiChoice Ethiopia, highlighted Abol TV's positive influence on the volume and quality of Ethiopian programming. “Since Abol’s launch, we have witnessed tremendous growth in national content that reflects Ethiopian values and culture,” he noted, underscoring the company’s plans to expand programming in Amharic and Afan Oromo to cater to local audiences.

Michael Million, director and showrunner for “Afaf,” expressed his appreciation to MultiChoice for supporting Ethiopian filmmakers. With 281 episodes aired, Mr. Million credited the show's success to its high production values, a cast that combines experienced and emerging talent, and the creation of a dedicated film village for filming – setting a new benchmark for local productions.

The event also previewed upcoming drama series from Abol TV, with producers like Anteneh Haile, Nur Akmel, Feven Ketema, and Usman Awal sharing insights into their forthcoming works. Celebrated actress Maaza Takele, who starred in “Afaf” and recently won the Guma Award, was honored for her outstanding performance and contributions to Ethiopian television.

A notable highlight of the evening was an announcement from the Indian Embassy. Shri Ranjit Kumar, Secretary at the Embassy, pledged 20 educational scholarships in India for Ethiopian film industry professionals involved in "Afaf," expressing India’s continued commitment to supporting Ethiopian cultural and film development. Shri Kumar commended Abol TV’s invaluable contributions to promoting local talent and content.
