Wilderness has taken over the sites of the storied Governors’ Camp Collection, specifically Little Governors’ Camp and Governors’ Private Camp—which have served as benchmarks for authentic Kenyan safaris for half a century. Under the new stewardship, these sites are undergoing a total transformation to align with the "Wilderness" standard of ultra-luxury while maintaining the soul of the Mara.

s The first to welcome guests will be Wilderness Mara Villas, scheduled for a February 2026 opening. Occupying the former site of Governors’ Private Camp, this property is being reimagined as a sole-use, ultra-exclusive retreat. Tucked into a secluded bend of the Mara River where elephants are known to cross daily, the Villas are designed for multi-generational families and high-net-worth groups seeking absolute solitude and a bespoke safari pace.

Following closely in June 2026, Wilderness Mara will open its doors on the site of the former Little Governors’ Camp. Positioned at the base of the dramatic Oloololo Escarpment, the camp will feature 12 elegantly appointed tented suites. Each unit is designed to be a sanctuary of glass and canvas, featuring elevated private decks, indoor and outdoor showers, and freestanding bathtubs that overlook a thriving seasonal marsh. Notably, this camp will cater primarily to couples and solo travelers, offering a serene, adults-oriented atmosphere focused on the rhythms of the wild.

The choice of the Mara Triangle is no coincidence. Managed by the Mara Conservancy, this sector of the reserve is world-renowned for its low vehicle density, strict anti-poaching measures, and a commitment to sustainable tourism. Wilderness guests will enjoy a distinct advantage: the camp’s unique location provides rare access to both sides of the Mara River, ensuring front-row seats to the high-drama river crossings of the Great Migration with significantly less "safari traffic" than other parts of the reserve.
