In a groundbreaking move to enhance regional integration and ease movement across the continent, Ghana will allow visa-free entry to citizens of all African countries starting in early 2025. This historic decision, approved by President Nana Akufo-Addo in December, positions Ghana as the fifth African country to open its borders to all holders of African passports.

The announcement fulfills a promise made by President Akufo-Addo at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues a year ago, where he emphasized the importance of building stronger ties across Africa. "This is about building stronger ties across Africa," Akufo-Addo stated, adding that "Ghana's future is tied to a united continent."

Previously, Ghana provided visa-free access to citizens of 26 African nations and visas on arrival for travelers from 25 others. Only visitors from two African countries required a visa before entering Ghana. This new policy will significantly simplify travel for African passport holders, fostering greater unity and cooperation among African nations.

Ghana now joins Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia, and Benin in offering visa-free entry to all African passport holders. This move is expected to boost tourism, business, and cultural exchanges, contributing to the overall development and prosperity of the continent.
